Hey, how you doing? Tay Musslewhite here. I wanted to talk about the top 10 things that you should be doing to market your local business according to ChatCPT. As you’ve probably noticed over the last week or two, this AI program has just exploded onto the scene. There’s talk about whether it’s gonna replace a bunch of jobs in seo, and things like that. What I wanted to do is take a look at a quick query of one of the top 10 things a business should do for local marketing. As a digital marketer who works with a lot of local businesses, I wanted to see what ChatGPT says. I generated three different ones. This is the list that I like the best. It was a little more specific. You can see all of them here.
It started out with optimized for local search and then claim your business list listing directories, get reviews, social media, local events, sponsorships, email marketing, offline marketing, partner with local businesses, and offer excellent customer service. I did three iterations, and I’m gonna go with the last one. The number one thing that a local business should do is claim and optimize your Google Business listing. This is the most important thing that any local business could do. And you also want to update it and add photos. Make sure that everything that you can fill out on your Google Business profile, which is now it’s called – make sure that everything’s filled out that you can possibly fill out, and then keep it updated. Continue adding thingssuch as photos, posts, offers, anything like that. Get listed in online directories.
This is a simple one. It’s been around for a long time. It used to be just one of those pillars of local marketing, and in fact, still is. There’s more and moreevidence from people like Bright Local who are saying that having those listings and the age of those listings could definitely impact your search rankings. Encourage customer reviews. I’m a huge believer in reviews, as you know, we have, or if you don’t know, I have a product called Review Quarry. It’s on my website: digitalkimberlite.com. Great success for lots of businesses and different verticals using Review Quarry… Keywords in your website and social media profiles. I mean, keywords are absolutely essential. Think of it as making sure that Google knows what they should be serving up you as the answer for when people search. Same thing on social media as getting it out there and making sure that it’s the right answer.
If someone’s looking around in social media utilize social media to connect with local customers. Absolutely. That’s number five here. For sure get active on social media, but one word of caution is if you’re not gonna do it consistently, you may not want to do it other than just kind of make sure that you have a profile with your address your name, address, and phone number where people can find you online and get in touch with you. Number six, local events. Yep, I’m huge with that. It’s a great thing. It’s person to person, you know, networking chamber bni groups, things like that. Targeted local advertising. Number seven, I call this lucky number seven. You should definitely be doing advertising. You definitely want to really take your time on advertising though, and perhaps enlist an expert to help you with that, because it’s very easy to waste a lot of money if you don’t do it right.
Email marketing, I’m a huge proponent of email marketing. I have packages on my website, in fact, to help you do that. Templates for industry specific, such as car repair shops, detail shops professional services firms, restaurants, things like that. Also text marketing, I would say…texting has really gone, this is where I differ from this list now. In fact, they state that this list has information in it from 2021 and earlier. I really believe that text marketing is where you want to go as a business. I obviously have a product called Call Quarry on my website that is very, very good at text marketing. One-To-One communication, not just one way. It’s two-way and it’s personalized. Partner with local businesses and you know, again, if there’s something that you can do for another business and they can do for you, get in there and work that deal with them.
Special deals and discounts to local customersthatis a great, you know, think of that as loyalty. You can do that with email marketing or text marketing and offers on Google Business Profileand even on your website. So the, this is a great list from ChatGPT. It’s a super cool program. We are gonna see what this does over the next set of time. And this is really just the beginning, I believe, but super interesting gives you some real fundamentals of things that you want to think about for your local business and how to market it.
